TickTool provides information and practical advice to help you protect yourself and your family from black-leged ticks.

About Ticktool

With the expansion of tick populations across Canada, there is an increasing risk of encountering ticks. As some species of ticks can transmit diseases to people and animals through a bite, it is becoming more important for Canadians to protect themselves and their families in a way that is both consistent and feasible. To promote these adaptations, researchers at the University of Montreal have collaborated with the eTick team at Bishop’s University  to develop TickTool.
The primary objective of this platform is to provide practical information and advice so Canadians can integrate preventive behaviours which align with their lifestyle into their routines.
The development of TickTool is supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), through the Canadian Lyme Disease Research Network (CLyDRN).

Did you know ?

Ticks are active from spring to fall.

As soon as the temperature rises above approximately 4°C, they can be active.

Ticks don't fly or jump.

They cling to vegetation with their back legs while extending their front legs to grab onto passing animals or people.

They live mainly in tall grass, brush and shrubs.

Not all ticks carry diseases.

The risk of transmission is low if removed before 24 hours.
